Had to take it to the nearest dealer, which was in Carson City. Needless to say, driving down the eastern side in limp mode is not fun.The first trip to the shop this time identified the wrong oil filter as the problem, mine did not have a check valve built in. The filter (and oil) was changed and the first climb up a highway grade, the code reset and the engine went into limp mode. Next trip to the shop had the oil changed and a new filter (again).He replaced it, cleared the codes, and off I went. Yeah, that lasted about 2 days - back to hard limp mode it went. So then I figured it had to be the ESM, so I bit the bullet, ordered the $600 part brand new from the factory and installed it myself. After re-reading one of your posts, your problem is either in your repair of the damaged wires, or deeper (bad module)... Sounds like the EBCM isn't communicating. To bypass the limp mode, you may want to ensure that the engine fluids are topped up on a regular basis. The info I read earlier about 2003 Wranglers having 3.7 was incorrect, my bad. After looking at a spec sheet for the 42RLE, it does match my tranny. I ordered my jeep in feb 2010 and took delivery 4/1/10. I assume mine has the newer update. The only item I did for my transmission was add the mopar cooler kit at about 40K I think. These transmissions run a bit hot and jeep didn't account for an external cooler. Guys cooked them just pushing them hard on highways, especially hilly/mountain roads.
